Drug Classification Overview

Fasenra (benralizumab) is a monoclonal antibody that binds to the alpha subunit of the interleukin-5 receptor (IL-5Rα) on eosinophils and basophils. By attracting natural killer (NK) cells to induce apoptosis of eosinophils, it rapidly and nearly completely depletes eosinophils, reducing inflammation in severe asthma.

It is administered by subcutaneous injection.
