How can I know if I’m suffering from acute pain or chronic pain?
At our Pain Clinic in Tijuana, one of the most important steps in our treatment plan for Chronic Pain is to know the difference between chronic and acute pain.

When a patient is suffering from acute pain is their body warning they have an injury, normally the pain is temporary, and it goes away once the injury is found and treated. When patients are suffering from chronic pain, their entire day to day activities are affected because the pain is not temporary, it goes on and off, the intensity can vary from mild to very high and in most of the cases, the causes are unknown.
How do you treat Chronic Pain in your clinic in Tijuana?
Our approach to treat chronic pain is multidisciplinary because of the wide range of treatment options we offer our patients after the proper evaluation has been made. We start our process by studying the patients and finding the specific cause of the pain, we then proceed to decide the correct treatment for the specific area, which can go from specialized medication to more invasive treatments such as fluoroscopic guided x-rays.

We understand chronic or lasting pain affects every aspect of our patients lives, reason why, we believe an early diagnosis and treatment is key for a successful recovery.
What causes Cancer Pain and how can you treat it?
The most common causes for cancer pain are mostly related to the traditional cancer treatments: chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. When treating post-operative pain, our patients have a faster and more effective healing process. In addition, in some cancer patients the tumor is causing pain because is pressing down on the bone, nerve or organ.

When treating cancer patients, our physicians can use different medications: non-opioids, opioids, antidepressants, antiepileptics, steroids, among others. However, it all depends on the results of the evaluation our medical team made.

One important characteristic of our treatment for cancer patients, is the palliative care our medical team offers. We provide support and guidance for our patients and their family, because at our Pain Clinic we understand they are experiencing more than physical pain, they are going through one of the hardest moments in their life.
What is Neuropathic Pain and how do you treat it?
Our patients suffering from neuropathic pain experience a more complex case. In their case, the nerve fibers are damaged, injured or aren’t functioning properly which causes them to send incorrect signals to other pain centers.

Neuropathic pain can be caused by different conditions, alcoholism, cancer, trigeminal neuralgia, HIV infection among other conditions.

At our Pain Management Clinic in Tijuana, we use a wide range of treatments depending on the patient’s evaluation. In some cases, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs help ease the pain, in other cases electrical stimulation of the damaged nerves to control the symptoms. Other treatments used in our clinic can be more traditional such as acupuncture, physical therapy or massage therapy.
What is Palliative Care during my pain treatment at your clinic?
As part of our personalized pain treatment plans, our medical team offers palliative care for our patients and their families. It’s provided at the same time your medical treatments are being administered.

Our doctors and nurses, will be with you every step of your treatment, assisting with difficult medical decisions, helping you with medical appointments and helping our patients and their family to find emotional and spiritual support through a difficult time.
